Kayley's Story in Recruitment

One of the most rewarding parts of recruitment is that we get to be a part of watching the careers of our candidates develop at the same time as our consultants develop their own. We're a real family here at OH and love to celebrate the achievements of our people. Today we're focusing on our Senior Consultant Kayley Savage.

Kayley joined Oakwell Hampton as a Junior Recruitment Consultant in March 2020. She's taken to recruitment like a duck to water and she received 3 promotions in just over 12 months due to her hard work!

Recently, Kayley officially became an award-winning Senior Consultant, winning the award for Most Inspiring Newcomer at the Recruiter Investing in Talent Awards. Well done, Kayley!

Why do you like recruitment?

I knew from an early age that I had a passion for people, from working in retail and call centre roles. I enjoy getting to know a person and their story – that’s what has appealed to me about recruitment. I like to paint a picture for each candidate and client and understand what their short and long-term goals are.

I also like the fact that I can show my personality and be myself. Often in the corporate world, you are expected to mask who you truly are, but we're encouraged to be ourselves.

What has recruitment done for you as a career?

It has built my confidence since I speak to different people each and every day. I feel comfortable whether I'm speaking to hiring managers or extremely talented software developers.

It has also helped me achieve goals in my personal life. I have saved a deposit for a second property, something I didn’t think was achievable through working a 9-5 job.

What skills do you need to succeed in recruitment?

  • Resilience
  • Drive
  • Ambition
  • Determination

What are the best things about OH?

The best thing about working at OH is the level of trust you get to make the role your own. You can work in your style, however works best for you, with management always there to offer advice on how to improve.

The social element is something I have not experienced before. There is always something going on, whether that be a paid lunch, a trip on holiday, or a magical Christmas party.

Tell us about your promotions.

From joining Oakwell Hampton as a Recruitment Resourcer, I have had 3 promotions (Junior Consultant, Consultant, and now Senior Consultant). From Day 1 it has been clearly outlined what I need to do in order to achieve each promotion. The support I've had from management and the business to achieve the promotions is amazing and so supportive.

The training has been second to none. We have external trainers, management training, buddying schemes, as well as training from our very own Directors. Somebody is always there to help or give feedback where applicable. We also do regular ‘lunch and learn’ sessions on Thursday that anybody can lead and share their knowledge with the wider business.
