Data Engineer

We are supporting a technology consultancy that is looking for a hands-on Freelance GCP Data Engineer to support a long-term client project in the Netherlands. This engagement is delivery-focused and suited to an engineer who enjoys building and optimising production-grade data pipelines in a cloud-native environment.

You will join an established delivery team working on a GCP-based data platform for a single enterprise client. The project involves designing, building, and improving scalable data pipelines to support analytics and downstream data products.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain end-to-end data pipelines on Google Cloud Platform
• Implement ELT/ETL workflows using BigQuery, Cloud Dataflow, Pub/Sub, Cloud Storage, and Cloud Composer
• Develop and optimise transformations using SQL and Python
• Build and support batch and streaming data pipelines
• Design and optimise BigQuery datasets, including partitioning and clustering
• Implement monitoring, logging, and data quality checks
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and automated deployments
• Troubleshoot and resolve performance, cost, and reliability issues in production
• Work closely with client engineers, architects, and stakeholders

Required Technical Skills

• Proven experience as a Data Engineer in cloud environments
• Strong, hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform
• Advanced BigQuery experience (query optimisation and cost control)
• Strong Python skills for data engineering
• Advanced SQL skills
• Experience with Dataflow / Apache Beam
• Infrastructure-as-code experience (preferably Terraform)
• Experience with Git-based workflows and CI/CD pipelines

Language & Location Requirements

• Fluent Dutch is required (spoken and written)
• English proficiency for technical documentation and collaboration
