Senior Software Engineer

I'm partnered with a world class start up who are actively seeking their second technical hire having recently launched & are now expanding their team to deal with growing customer demand. The ideal candidate is hands-on, mission-aligned, and excited to help shape an early product and team. You will be the second technical hire, working closely with the founders to design and build core systems that power a voice-based AI product focused on meaningful, real-world impact. The role is backend-heavy but includes opportunities to contribute to the frontend as well.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain scalable backend services using Python
• Contribute to the frontend using React as needed
• Work with LLMs, vector databases, and memory systems to support personalized AI behavior
• Help define engineering practices and product architecture from the ground up
• Collaborate directly with the CTO and CEO on product and technical direction
• Participate in code reviews and pair programming sessions
• Support deployment, observability, and ongoing iteration based on user feedback

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in software development, ideally with startup or small team experience
• Strong backend skills with Python and experience working with modern web frameworks
• Frontend experience with React or willingness to jump in when needed
• Exposure to or interest in LLMs, RAG, conversational AI, or voice interfaces
• Comfortable building production systems from scratch and working across the stack
• Based in NYC and open to working on-site
